Instructions for Setting Up Your Affiliate Program And Obtaining Affiliates

The single best way to get traffic to your web site is to start your own affiliate program.  The word affiliate program is used interchangeably with associate program.

I'm a HUGE advocate of having your own affiliate program -- even in niches that have NOTHING to do with Internet marketing.

What it means is you will have a software program that allows others to refer customers to you in exchange for a commission on sales. You're probably familiar with how Amazon.com works. You can sell their books on your web site and receive a commission on sales.

The beauty of an associate program is you don't pay for the promotion until AFTER the sale, since you are paying a commission to the referring affiliate. This means you don't have to spend money upfront on advertising.

1.  Set Up Your Affiliate Software

There are several choices:

a.  The http://www.automateyourwebsite.com software has an affiliate program module built right into it. You can be up and running with your affiliate program in an hour or so. 

b. http://www.clickbank.com

Nothing wrong with using Clickbank to take your orders AND manage your affiiliates to start with. You won't get your money as fast as you will with Paypal but Clickbank pays your affiliates for you. They also have an upsell system that works and setting up your own can be difficult.

c. http://www.nanacast.com

Nanacast is gaining a niche for the software that is affordable, more customizable than many programs yet not as complex as say Infusionsoft.

2.  Create your reseller tools

Your resellers will need tools to promote your product. 

a.  Banner Ads -- You will want to make up several banner ads they can use.  Any graphic designer can create banner ads for you.

b.  Articles -- The thing affiliates love most is articles they can post on their web sites or send out to their ezine list.

c.  Ecourses -- Affiliates like to use pop-ups on their web sites that offer free courses.

You've seen these ecourses before.  You go to a web site and have the opportunity to sign up for a free 7-day ecourse.  These are very popular with customers.

When the page loads, just close the browser page and in a few seconds it will pop out.

3.  Turn every customer into a reseller

Your goal is to turn every customer into a reseller, although in reality you will never achieve that objective.  However, the best place to look for affiliates is in your satisfied customer base.

You turn customers into affiliates just by making it known that you do offer an affiliate program and making it very easy to sign up and use your promotional tools.

Give them the link without them even having to sign up and give it to them in the email they get RIGHT when they buy. Emphasize that if they tell their friends on Facebook and Twitter, just two sales and they'll break even.

This is a super powerhouse technique. I highly recommend it. Then you want to give buyers videos, reports and articles they can pass along, post on their blog and refer others to. This is the most cost effective, simple and easy marketing you can ever do that will convert very well for you.

4.  Approach JV partners

a. Go to http://www.alexa.com

Search for web sites with a high alexa rating.  Alexa ranks web sites based on traffic.  Their user base is people with the Alexa toolbar installed on their computer. 

What you want to find is people with high Alexa traffic. 

b.  Get the contact info

A lot of times a phone number is posted on the web site.  Or you can go to this web site, type in the domain name and get the contact data:

http://networksolutions.com/en_US/whois/index.jhtml

If that url changes, go to networksolutions.com and look for the "who is" link.

c.  Call the web site owner

After looking up a phone number, you literally call and network with the webmaster or site owner. 

d.  Offer something first

The KEY to doing a JV is to offer something to that person FIRST.  Maybe you can offer to link to their web site or help promote them in some way. 

e.  Make it EASY to promote your products or services

Give them an article they can mail to their list or an email promo.  Sign them up on your affiliate software yourself with them on the phone. Insert their ID in the promo and mail it to them.

I've already talked about this before. But if you:

1. Create products that are high quality

2. Pay out 100% commissions or commissions higher than others pay

You WILL get traffic. There's no doubt about it. Now, take every buyer and give them an IMMEDIATE promo link. THEN give them VIRAL reports, pdf's and videos they can tell others about and pass along.

You will be cranking before you know it if you crank hard on these methods. They'll work for you if YOU work them diligently.
